We continue with our Guillermo del Toro series with El Espinazo del Diablo (The Devil’s Backbone). This film was released in 2001, a great year for Spanish cinema (we recommend watching The Others, by Alejandro Amenábar. The Others is in English, so we won’t be showing it in our movie night, but it’s one of our favorite films!)
In The Devil’s Backbone, Carlos, a 12-year-old whose father has died in the Spanish Civil War, arrives at an ominous boy’s orphanage and discovers the school is haunted and has many dark secrets that he must uncover.
